As stated on the station, the hire fee is charged per hour. If you’ve had the battery for more than an hour, it will tick over into the next hourly period.
The $40 is a temporary hold/bond. If you’ve returned the battery, the remaining balance is automatically refunded. Refunds appear within 1 - 48 hours depending on the bank.

When a patron hires a power bank, a $40 pre-authorisation is held on their bank card as collateral. If it’s not returned within 24 hours, the $40 is charged and they can keep the power bank indefinitely. The battery can still be recharged from any USB-C cable, so it remains fully functional even if it’s not returned to a Fluro station.
